Please be aware The Public is under construction.

The Public Theater is working to create an amazing public space for your enjoyment, with the majority of construction expected to be completed by summer 2012. This renovation is designed to improve the public spaces of The Public Theater and greatly enhance your experience within our facility. In the meantime, here is what to expect during your next visit while we are under renovation: 

Facilities: The new and expanded restrooms are open on the first floor.

Entrance: The new entrance will be fully completed by year-end, but the stairs and one ADA ramp are now open for use.

Season programming: The LuEsther, Martinson, Anspacher and Newman Theaters will remain in use and programming will continue as usual.

Box Office: A temporary box office is located in the Shiva Theater until the new lobby is fully completed by summer 2012.

Concessions: A scaled down concessions service will be offered in the lobby during programming.  By summer 2012, The Public will open a new café serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks during intermission.

Lobby construction: Sections of the lobby will remain open during construction to be used as a public thoroughfare, with partitions erected to ensure your safety.

Elevators: One elevator will always be in operation during construction, and our staff is here to assist you.

Joe’s Pub: Renovations are complete and the new Joe's Pub reopened on October 4, 2011.  A new menu will be offered by spring/summer 2012.

HVAC: The lobby will not be fully air conditioned until summer 2012, and temporary heating will be in place for the winter months.  All theaters and Joe’s Pub will have a new HVAC system by fall of 2012. 

New Mezzanine & Lounge: The expanded lobby mezzanine level and new restaurant lounge are expected to be completed for use by summer 2012.

Construction noise: For your convenience, work is scheduled to not interfere with performances.
