For 50 years The Public Theater has been committed to making theater that reflects the life of our city – diverse, brilliant, raw, and alive. Joe Papp started by insisting that Shakespeare belonged to the people, and from that belief grew a vibrant theater that moves from Central Park to the Lower East Side, from Broadway to the Boroughs, from Shakespeare to Suzan-Lori Parks.
