Will Blunt is in love with Molly, a young transvestite prostitute. But when Blunt rescues him from a life on the streets and finds him a position as a ladies maid Molly falls in love with Dick Dashwood, the handsome womanizing rake. Dashwood, is trying to woo virtuous Hermione Goode beyond the watchful eye of her pious aunt Dame Stickle. His friend Sir Peter Lustforth is also pursuing young Hermione, much to the chagrin of his wife Lady Vanity. The prospective lovers plot, plan, play dead and sport disguises until their machinations lead them to a night of revelry in a remote cave with a secret fraternal order. In the morning all are unmasked, their secrets revealed, and everyone is united with their rightful lover.
Michael Stuhlbarg received a Lucill Lortel Awards nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance.
