The Seagull is the story of Arkadina, a famous actress, her son Konstantin who is an aspiring playwright, the young actress Nina, with whom he is in love, and Arkadina's lover Trigorin, a well-known writer. The country estate on which the play takes place is peopled by a rich group of supporting characters, tied to Arkadina and her son in a complex web of relationships that is both humorous and heartbreaking. When Nina follows Arkadina and Trigorin to Moscow and has an affair with the writer Konstantin is crushed, but it is her return to the country estate that will destroy him.
The show received Drama Desk Awards nominations for Best Revival of a Play and Outstanding Actress in a Play for Meryl Streep.
