Written by John MoranDirected by John Moran
Downtown theater artist John Moran was the creator, director and composer of this multimedia performance.
The first of the three parts that comprise this production is a visual recreation of scenes from the Egyptian Book of the Dead, with recorded narration by Uma Thurman. In the second part, a variety of everyday people are seen going about their day on New York’s Second Avenue. These quotidian scenes are interspersed with images from the media- news broadcasts, talk shows, and advertisements. The final part is a treatment of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, using imagery and recorded narration.
This production received Hewes Design Award nominations for Lighting Design and Noteworthy Unusual Effects for Cabell Tomlinson’s masks and puppets.
