Take Me Out
Written by Richard GreenbergDirected by Joe Mantello
Richard Greenberg's play tests the underbelly of America's most beloved sport, baseball.
Darren Lemming, an iconic young baseball star is at the top of his game, professionally and personally when he decides to call a press conference that results in his "coming out" to the waiting media. Take Me Out chronicles the fall-out as the ripples of his actions spread through the team, the media and across the nation. More than simply a play about sexual orientation, Take Me Out explores our perceptions of celebrity, race, life, death and what it means to be part of a team.
The show transferred to the Walter Kerr Theater, where it had its Broadway opening on February 27, 2003. Daniel Sunjata received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance.
