Dirty Tricks
Written by John JeterDirected by Margaret Whitton
Judith Ivey returned to The Public Theater to star in this one-woman show about the infamous wife of Richard Nixon’s Attorney General John Mitchell, by first-time playwright John Jeter.
On the day of Nixon’s resignation Martha Mitchell is alone in her New York apartment. The wildly eccentric woman whose uncontrollable tongue helped to unravel the Nixon administration looks over her past as the wife of a politician, from her love/hate relationship with the press to the Watergate scandal and its fallout. Martha drinks, dances, and makes outrageous pronouncements in this romp through the world of a very troubled, truthful, and unpredictable woman.
Judith Ivey received a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance.
