MOBILE UNIT
Now in its second year, the Public’s Mobile Unit is a reinvention of Joseph Papp’s Mobile Shakespeare, which he began in 1957 to bring Shakespeare to the masses, evolving into the New York Shakespeare Festival and ultimately becoming The Public Theater. The Mobile Unit presents Shakespeare for free to prisons, homeless shelters, centers for the elderly, and other community venues throughout the five boroughs.

EMERGING WRITERS GROUP
The Emerging Writers Group targets playwrights early in their careers, creating an artistic home, support, and resources for a diverse group of up-and-coming playwrights.

SHAKESPEARE LAB
The Shakespeare Lab is The Public’s professional development program for actors. Now in its seventeenth year, and tuition-free for its fourth year, it immerses a carefully-selected company of professional, mid-career actors in a summer intensive exploring the rigors, challenges, and joys of performing Shakespeare. The Lab culminates in a public performance of Shakespeare on one of the stages at The Public Theater’s downtown home.

SHAKESPEARE PROGRAMS FOR TEENS

The Public Theater's Shakespeare Initiative offers a number of programs for young Shakespeareans throughout the year. From Shakespeare Spring Break to A Midsummer Day's Camp, young actors have an opportunity to learn about the challenges and joys of performing Shakespeare from some of the best teaching artists in New York City.
