Campbell's Soup Drive for GOB SQUAD'S KITCHEN
This January, the British/German performance collective Gob Squad returns to New York with their sensational KITCHEN (You’ve Never Had It So Good), which takes you on a trip back to the underground cinemas of New York City for an exploration of the world through the films of Andy Warhol. Before Warhol made films, he sent shockwaves through the art world by focusing on commercial products like Campbell’s Soup cans as the subjects of his work. When asked why he chose to paint soup cans of all things, he replied, "I used to drink it, I used to have the same lunch every day, for twenty years."
At The Public Theater, we believe that everyone deserves at least a can of soup for lunch, but there are many in New York City who go hungry every day when even Campbell’s is out of reach. In the spirit of Warhol and charity, we will be taking donations of Campbell’s Soup (and other canned food) now through the end of the run of KITCHEN on February 5. Bring all donations to The Public Theater Box Office at 425 Lafayette Street.
As a thank you, those who donate can purchase their ticket to GOB SQUAD’S KITCHEN for just $40 when they show their can at the window (full price starts at $60). For those who can’t make the trip downtown just to donate, we encourage you to bring your contributions with you when you are at the theater for shows at Joe's Pub or the Under the Radar Festival! Your generous donations will be delivered to CityHarvest.
