Brooklyn College Play Festival:
BRING A WEASEL AND A PINT OF YOUR OWN BLOOD

Shiva Theater

August 17 - August 24

All tickets are $10.

Each performance is approximately 2 hours with an intermission.

The Public Theater hosts the 13th annual Bring A Weasel and A Pint of Your Own Blood Festival, presented by the Brooklyn College Theater Program. This year, the four plays featured in this festival are all adaptations of a common source material: the paintings of artist Martín Ramírez. Brooklyn College playwrights, directors, designers, and actors collaborate on these explosive experiments in form.

After its run at The Public, Bring A Weasel and A Pint of Your Own Blood will perform at The Don Buchwald Theater at Brooklyn College. Learn more and access tickets here

Program A - TERM OF ART and WOE IS ME

TERM OF ART

Written and Directed by Kate Dakota Kremer

Featuring: Sara BrownAndriana GeorgitsisAsh MayersSchann Rae MobleyBryce PayneRava RabbJenna Zafiropoulos

term of art draws on Supreme Court cases on immigration, art made by detainees at Guantánamo, and scraps of things overheard. Onstage each night, a transcriptionist struggles to do justice to this material of justice and to be present to the horror of the present. As repeated brutalities become settled law, we are left asking: what can emerge from the inadequacies of love and art?

WOE IS ME

Written by Rachel Kauder Nalebuff
Directed by Emily Edwards

Featuring: Sara BrownAsh MayersJimmy MorganNelson OrellanaJohn Teresi

Peering behind the curtain, Woe is Me uncovers the unexpected similarities between the hospital and the theater. This theatrical essay—comparing the techniques of doctors and actors—explores our collective longing to heal and be healed.

Program B - THE SANDWICH PROGRAM and TONGUE DEPRESSOR

THE SANDWICH PROGRAM

Written by April Ranger
Directed by Tara Elliott

Featuring: Onika Day, Mia Longenecker, Renee Rises, Sabra Shelly, Judylee Vivier

Five queer volunteers—hungry to connect—face a daily, impossible task. Armed with bread and knives, aprons and loss, inside the basement of a rural Unitarian Universalist church, they strive to feed hunger. Amid howls of scarcity, where do we go in search of safety, kindness, and heels of bread?

TONGUE DEPRESSOR

Written by Jerry Lieblich
Directed and Choreographed by Tara Elliott

Featuring: Sarah Beitch, Kristin Fulton, Emma Orme, Jorge Sanchez-Diaz, Connor Sheridan, Keelie Sheridan

A demi-opera in ache.  Music of a shattered language yearning over distance for the touch of one loved.  Deer, microbes, and minerals—all in rigorous confinement—dream of intimacy and wonder what it means to say “I am.”
