In his first ever full evening at Joe’s Pub, Miguel Gutierrez, choreographer, performer, composer and singer, unveils a melodious stream of sad Madonna songs called SADONNA. Having sung at Joe’s Pub and elsewhere with such luminaries as Justin Vivian Bond, Anohni, Nick Hallett, and Holcombe Waller as well as in shows by John Kelly and in the legendary Our Hit Parade, Gutierrez takes on his own night to show just how tiny the spiritual distance is between an international pop superstar who grew up in Bay City, Michigan and an international experimental itinerant who grew up in Colonia, New Jersey. Backed by the Sad (Mostly) Latino Boys Backup Singers aka SLUTINOS, and with a bunch of Amazing guest artists including Nick Hallett and Tessa Skara, Gutierrez invites you to share in a night of melancholia, because, as he loves to say, “I have a lot of feelings, all of them sad…” Appropriately enough, these evenings happen while the sun still crosses Leo, essentially honoring Miss Madge, the queen of all attention-loving Leos. Come for the Holiday, stay for the tears.
"At a time when so much art lacks a heartbeat, Mr. Gutierrez’s chest pounds.” - Claudia LaRocco, The New York Times
