Ramya Ramana, 18, is a youth activist, poet, writer, and most of all, believer of God. She is the current Youth Poet Laureate of New York City. Recently, she won the New York Knicks Poetry Slam that awarded her with a full scholarship to St. John's University, where she is studying Philosophy. As the Youth Poet Laureate, Ramya will travel the five boroughs to speak to her peers about voting and civic engagement and also publish her first body of work with Penmanship Books. Ramya has performed at venues such as the Apollo Theatre, Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts, Nuyorican Poets Café, Richie Rich’s Palace for the Queens Borough President, Melinda Katz and City Hall for the inauguration of Mayor Bill De Blasio. Ramya is currently in pursuit of being a better lover, friend and servant of God and hopes to pursue a career as a full time artist.
