The Universal Thump: The Seder-Songwriter Project

Joe's Pub

May 1

Doors at 6:00PM
Show at 7:00PM

Brooklyn-based band, The Universal Thump (led by Australian ex-pat singer-songwriter, Greta Gertler Gold & producer, drummer, multi-instrumentalist Adam D Gold) are known for their elaborate, sweeping orchestral pop approach to recordings and live shows. Their debut album was described by NPR as "A psychedelic journey of multiple identities as told by Gertler in her transporting, angelic soprano, backed by layers of organs, girl-group harmonies, strings, brass, percussion and what can only be described as futuristic whale noises."  A few years back they produced and performed as 'wall of sound' house band for a 40th Anniversary Benefit Concert of George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass', featuring guests such as Shara Worden, Missy Higgins & John Wesley Harding. And they just returned from their first extensive tour of Europe which included a stop at legendary studio, Abbey Road, to record their forthcoming EP 'Walking the Cat'.

For one night only, they have gathered an exceptional line-up of their musical friends to create a brand new Tower of Song (and artisanal matzo) on Sunday, May 1: The Seder-Songwriter Project at Joe's Pub, NYC. An all-inclusive, secular, humanist celebration, The Seder-Songwriter Project is a group of NYC's finest singer-songwriters, each performing one new song based on its story and/or rituals, culminating in a modern re-telling and re-interpretation of the Jewish holiday through contemporary song - a one-off, "Musical Seder".
