Talking Jazz takes the audience on a journey from kasséko (breaking the body) — a traditional rhythm from French Guiana that fuses elements of Amerindian culture with the dances of enslaved Africans — through key stages in the history of North American tap dancing, to modern rhythmic jazz tap. Accompanied by special guests Jay Rodriguez on flute & saxophone and Kaoru Watanabe on flute & taiko, Tamangoh’s Talking Jazz is a rhythm journey narrating the Bantu experience in the new world from Gorée Island to New Orleans to the many places in the Caribbean and South America trailing the slave trade.
Co-produced by Octo Productions.
